ABOUT

Hi! My name is Julia Desderio. I am a senior majoring in 3D Character Animation at SCAD. I have been making art for over ten years, and I am very excited to continue creating.

I realized art was something I wanted to pursue in fourth grade when my peers and teachers started to notice the artwork I was doing in my free time. They told me a had a real talent for art which motivated me to keep going and improve my skill. Aside from art, I also am very passionate about theater, writing, reading, film, and music.

Over the years, I found myself experimenting with many different mediums of traditional art including paint, charcoal, pastels, colored pencils, and markers. When I was fourteen, I discovered digital art. I started out on a program called Autodesk Sketchbook, eventually moving on to Procreate when I was sixteen. I've always found myself gravitating towards a semi-realistic, animated art style. I would also occasionally experiment with 2D animation on my iPad and computer. During my high school career, I was a member of the National Art Honor Society and also won 3rd place in a statewide art competition.

When the time came to pick my major, I knew that above all, I wanted to be a storyteller. I have been telling stories all my life, from theater to the short stories I wrote in my free time. I chose to major in animation since it married my two favorite hobbies- acting and art. I find I can freely express myself through animation and I am excited to keep studying here at SCAD and develop a demo reel I am proud of.
